What $100K to $1 Million Can Buy You in Today’s Business Market

What $100K to $1 Million Can Buy You in Today’s Business Market
Buying a business can look very different depending on the budget you have to work with.
Around $100,000 might put you behind the counter of an established cafe, while $400,000 could buy a largely unattended laundromat. Push the budget closer to $1 million and you start seeing larger operations with established teams, substantial assets and multi-million-dollar turnover.
To see just how much the options change as the budget grows, we took a look at businesses currently for sale across Australia, starting at $90,000 and working our way up to $1.1 million.
And because we couldn't resist, we've added one much bigger option at the end.
1. Around $100K – Daytime Cafe in NSW
Price: $90,000 + SAV
At the lower end of our price range is an established daytime cafe in Redfern that has been operating for around two decades.
The business records approximately $10,000 in weekly turnover plus catering and is currently run under management. The 40-seat venue includes indoor and outdoor areas, a private rear courtyard, commercial kitchen and liquor licence, with trading currently limited to daytime hours.
For $90,000 + SAV, buyers are stepping into an existing hospitality business with the fit-out, location and operating systems already in place.
2. Around $250K – Home-Based Car Subscription and Rental Business in VIC
Price: $260,000
Moving up to $260,000 brings us to something completely different.
This home based car subscription and rental business has a fleet of approximately 35 vehicles valued at $180,000, which the listing states are owned outright with no finance owing. The business generates around $5,000 in weekly takings and operates predominantly online and by appointment.
With no commercial rent or lease and usually only three or four vehicles kept at the home base at one time, it provides an interesting example of what a quarter of a million dollar budget can buy outside a traditional bricks and mortar business.

3. Around $400K – Laundromat in QLD
Price: $425,000
At $425,000, buyers could consider a modern laundromat designed to operate predominantly unattended.
Established in 2024, the Albany Creek business recorded $140,219 in FY2025/26 laundromat sales and a normalised operational profit of $58,147. It includes modern commercial washers and dryers, cashless payment technology, remote monitoring and supporting commercial infrastructure.
The lease runs until September 2031 with a further seven-year option, while an established customer loyalty program has approximately 100 members.
4. Around $600K – Fence and Fabrication Business in SA
Price: $625,000 + SAV
A budget above $600,000 takes us into a very different scale of operation.
This Adelaide fencing and fabrication business has been operating since 2000 and recorded $3.42 million in 2026 sales, with EBITDA of $206,000.
The business manufactures and installs fencing and fabricated products for commercial, industrial and residential customers and has its own powder-coating facility. An experienced workforce, supplier relationships and established operating systems are also part of the business.
5. Around $750K – Insurance and Building Services Business in WA
Price: $750,000 + SAV
At $750,000, buyers could step into an established insurance repair and building services business operating across Perth.
The business recorded revenue of approximately $2.14 million in FY2026, with the listing quoting a weighted three-year adjusted EBITDA of approximately $529,990 based on a vendor prepared add-back schedule.
Operating for more than 10 years, the business has an established management and administration structure, three regional assessors and a network of accredited subcontractors. Its services extend across insurance repairs, property maintenance, building inspections and other specialist property services.

6. Around $900K – XS Espresso Franchise in NSW
Price: $920,000
Remember the $90,000 cafe that started our list? A budget closer to $1 million shows just how different businesses within the same category can be.
This established XS Espresso franchise in Sydney is advertised at $920,000 and records approximately $2.4 million in annual revenue and $527,000 in EBITDA.
Rather than relying solely on breakfast and lunch trade, the cafe operates through to 10pm, with a menu covering coffee, brunch, lunch, dinner, beverages and desserts. Buyers are also stepping into an established franchise network with brand systems, marketing, training and online ordering infrastructure already in place.
7. Around $1 Million – Skip Bin Business in QLD
Price: $1,100,000
Just over the $1 million mark is an established skip bin business servicing Brisbane, Gold Coast and surrounding areas.
The business generates approximately $1 million in annual turnover and $200,000 in annual profit, according to the listing. The sale includes around 140 skip bins ranging from 2m³ to 12m³, three 15-tonne GVM trucks and an established website, branding and operating systems.
Two experienced full-time drivers are already in place, while the existing customer base spans residential, construction, landscaping, trade and commercial clients.
For $1.1 million, the buyer isn't simply purchasing the business name and customer base. A significant fleet of physical assets forms part of the operation.
And What If Your Budget Is Much Bigger?
We said we'd look at what $100,000 to around $1 million could buy, but there's always another end of the business sales market.
And this one was too interesting to leave out.
$20 Million – Wine Business and Vineyard in SA
Price: $20,000,000 + SAV Freehold
Jump from $1.1 million to $20 million and the scale changes dramatically.
This South Australian wine business and vineyard is being offered as a freehold opportunity covering a total land area of approximately 180 hectares.
Around 126 hectares are planted with established vineyards encompassing 28 different varieties, including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The property also has a 300-megalitre water licence supplied through underground bores and large dams.
The operation includes domestic and international wine sales, along with a cellar door and restaurant.
Turnover and net profit aren't disclosed in the listing, but the sheer size of the landholding, established vineyards and associated wine operation provides an interesting glimpse at what buyers can find at the very top end of the market.
So What Does Your Budget Buy?
Asking price alone doesn't tell the full story of a business.
Across these listings, the jump from $90,000 to $1.1 million takes us from a daytime cafe to businesses with vehicle fleets, commercial equipment, established teams, specialised facilities and multi-million-dollar turnover.
Even businesses within the same industry can look completely different depending on the price point, as our two cafe examples show.
Whatever your budget, it's important to look beyond the asking price and understand what is actually included, how the business performs and what will be required from you as the next owner.
