My husband and I are ready to retire. We’ve loved this business for almost 13 years now and it’s time to “hit the road” in a motorhome.

This houseboat hire business has been successfully running for 30 years. Just 45mins drive to NSW's 2nd largest city, Newcastle.
The boats were built locally and designed specifically for this waterway, the Myall Lakes, with shallow draft, large water tanks and huge fuel capacity. These types of boats were so popular that the builders built dozens more which are still operating right along the eastern coast of Australia. Our operation area is unique as it is mostly freshwater with no tide effect. Perfect for first time “boaties” or experienced ones alike. We are the only hire boat operators on the Myall Lakes.
In recent years, we have added power anchor winches to all the hire boats and 12vt electric fridge/freezers, replacing the old gas fridges which used to struggle in hot weather.
Each boat has solar panels which supply enough power to run everything even when the clients anchor in one place for many days without starting the motors. Many of our regulars do exactly this, they tow their ski-boats to their favourite spots and anchor up, some for a whole week.
All the boats have had major aesthetic upgrades inside and out.
There are five 45ft Coher houseboats and one 33ft Vickers houseboat.
The service boat is a Clarkes ex-waterways boat with 2x90hp Mariner motors. The “chase boat” is aluminium with a 50hp Yamaha motor which we use for water-skiing in our leisure-time. (The kids and grandkids love it!) There are 2 other tinnies and 6 dinghies. One tinny has a 10hp and the other a 4hp motor, there are 4 smaller motors which we hire out with the dinghies. All 21 motors are in good working order.
The floating office/workshop was added 7 years ago with accommodation upstairs, very comfortable for a couple or a single operator/caretaker.
There is a long term lease in place with 5 year options to continue, guaranteed until 2035.
We lease the marina jetties, parking area, part of the building including office, workshop and storage areas, laundry and verandah. The marina has a slipway which is included in our lease with priority usage at no extra cost. Easy to operate with no tide consideration. Private boat ramp right here by the jetty. We have our fuel and gas delivered to the marina.
Our current staff are very competent and keen to continue with the new owners. There will be a big learning curve when you take over but with our initial help and training you’ll be a pro in no time.
Our current staff can manage the ongoing business while you settle in.
We added the 4th 45ft houseboat 2 years ago and now we've added a 5th 45ft houseboat, mid October 2020.
There is room here to add a few more houseboats.
