Word on the street is that Madame Brussels is closing. Well it does not have to. The venue is cemented as one of the Melbourne Hospitality Establishments, a reputation earned by focusing on a unique branded experience.
Heading in off Bourke Street you access the venue by one of the smallest lifts you could imagine. What awaits indoors though is initially the Garden Lounge with synthetic lawn and curving brickwork paths that lead to the over grown bar. Tucked away up a side garden pathway there's a private function room, "The Parlour." This bizarre den, modelled on a 1930s Bavarian man-cave, has functioned brilliantly for private dinners, Comedy Festival shows and it's timber panelled wall hides a secret door to the back-of house. What most come to see is the north-facing open terrace overlooking the Windsor towers, visible through the Plane tree leaves from below in Bourke Street. A further level accessed from the terrace provides sheltered seating and heating with an elevated outdoor perspective. Behind the bar there are assorted kitchen preparation and serving areas along with a cool room, office and laundry. There is a multitude of storage areas with some the strangest things you'll find such as a cupboard full of teapots.
Madam Brussels has an On Premises licence until 1am seven days a week with a capacity of 200. The rent is $2450 a week including GST. There are only just over two years left on the lease. So any offer will be conditional upon negotiating a new lease or extra terms with the landlord. There are no equipment or supplier contracts in place and all fixtures and fittings are included in the sale.
The venue has had the same owners for the last fifteen years and as they say all good things come to an end.
