Doug has a pragmatic approach and a comprehensive background in business ownership and corporate management. He started on his own at just 18 when he purchased a retail/wholesale round in Newmarket. As this operated at night Doug also worked during the day for a family contracting business.

Following on from this he joined food manufacturers in sales and marketing roles. One of these roles was a National and International sales manager selling foodstuffs throughout New Zealand, Japan, the Pacific and South East Asia. He then progressed to positions of general management for some of New Zealand's largest food companies in the dairy industry.

Having reached a pinnacle in this field he started his own food importing business which involved multimillion dollar sales to the Supermarket and Hospitality sectors. This company introduced a number of new frozen food products and brands into New Zealand, some of which grew from small beginnings to become market leaders.  Doug has also owned a large hospitality business operating seven days a week so has a very good understanding of these.

Travelling extensively throughout New Zealand on regular sales trips and having lived in Queenstown, Northland, Invercargill, Dunedin and Auckland, Doug is very familiar with all parts of the country.
