Diesel 4x4 Mechanics Under Management

History of the business:
At 25 years old the owner started the business on the 10th of Oct 2014 doing mobile heavy diesel mechanic repairs and servicing while also contracting to Westrac CAT in their mining Davison (marine, earthmoving, trucks and 4wds). As the Sole director the owner wanted to work less to allow for more of a lifestyle (national and international yacht racing) while still earning a good living.

Moving into the workshop in 2018 after outgrowing the shed at home the addition of a great workshop and a hoist I started doing more and more 4wds and preferred the simplicity of ordering parts and staying in the one location with all my equipment. First staff hired in 2020, and the business kept growing. Realising the potential of the 4wd industry and have only done 4wds since 2021. These years were full on working towards hiring enough staff so that I could enjoy a good lifestyle again.

Reason for sale:
Change of direction in life, I’m back doing Christian missions, in 2022 I realised that is where I needed to be, while on a 6-month stint away from the business, I felt called to do more training and train others, to give up the business and lifestyle I love. I have been living at youth with a mission (YWAM Perth) and working full-time with them since July 2024 till present.

Potential of business:
Massive, the 4wd and Diesel Industry is huge, there are few workshops that offer professional work like us, and we charge a premium for it at $180inc gst an hour for general labour and $220inc gst for diagnosing work. There are great suppliers to work with and we have amazing relationships and deals going with them.

It is set up for walk in walk out with a manager and workers already working autonomously.

We are booked out 6 weeks in advance with more enquiries to pick and choose from than we know what to do with.

We had to take our phone number offline and revert to form enquiries on the website only, so we weren't answering the phone all day. Only return clients have our phone number.

We have great relationships with our suppliers and have built on that in this time. We are the WA stockist for PDC Fabrication (Patroldocta) and PVS Automotive, we also have deals with Manta exhaust, gturbo, PDI intercoolers, direct clutch, clutch and brake Australia, superior engineering, Toyo tyres, Maxxis tyres, wheel companies, performance suspension racing, Fatz and many more. We market towards the higher end of the market and our choice of suppliers reflect that. We supply specialty parts that others don’t know about and can’t compete with.

Products, services and stock:
We provide general servicing, mechanical maintenance, performance upgrades for diesel and petrol vehicles, in house tuning of engines on our chassis dyno. Most of our products are easily available from our suppliers and we put a minimum 60% mark up on them, usually 100% or more. We have about 20K of Patroldocta fast moving products in stock and other fast-moving parts for the common vehicles we work with.
The bulk of our work is performance and driveline upgrades. We also do complete start to finish transformations, clients get a taste of our passion and want every bit of work done by us.

Business features:
We have a lot of equipment that other workshops don't have which puts us in the limelight for clients to want to use us. The staff are very passionate about the industry and adopt a humble and down to earth approach to clients which keeps great clients coming back for more and referring us to others.

Ownership structure:
Sole director of a pty ltd company.
I currently do accounts and have trained the staff to work without my input.

Employee structure:
It currently operates with a manager, two tradesmen, a part time admin and an apprentice with little input from Owner/director who mainly does admin and works on his own cars to maintain and sell them (currently owns 10 cars) wants to decrease to 4 or less.

We have been mega blessed with great workers.

It has been humbling to see this team do such a great Job without me present. The workshop looks great and is always clean when I visit. There are always cars everywhere getting worked on and in and out of the yard. The Manager and the fellas make sure jobs are turned over quickly and clients are stoked.
