Kingoonya is situated 45km west of Glendambo off the Stuart Highway on a council-maintained dirt road. The Hotel is a single-story Hotel and was built in 1937 and has been operating on and off until we reopened in 2012. The business has steadily grown to where it is today.
Kingoonya is the gateway to the Gawler Ranges, or it can be a stop over on the way North, South or West. It is well patronised by travellers and local residents from town and from the surrounding sheep or cattle stations in the area. It is also very popular with off-roaders and 4wd enthusiasts with a very well used 4wd track nearby (Googs Track).
Offering Alcohol, food, and accommodation the hotel is very prepared to accommodate the locals as well as any travellers. The front bar is small, but we also have a large licensed outdoor area where you can eat, drink, and play the outdoor pool table. When the weather is cold you can sit around the firepit or under the outdoor heaters. There is nothing like having a beer in front of the fire and listening to a few tunes or listening to fellow patrons talking about the meaning of life.
The Hotel has its own rainwater tanks along with town supplied water and full Telstra overage and Wi-Fi . The roof was completely replaced in 2021 over the whole building. There are 2 dining rooms of different sizes inside the pub and a large fully equipped modern kitchen with fryers, grill plate, stainless steel benches, fridges, freezers, and a large commercial dish washer.
There are 8 motel rooms with shared amenities next to the Hotel. They belong to the hotel as well. The rooms inside the hotel can be set up in various sizes as used privately at the moment..
The front bar also serves as the reception point with office attached. There is also a cool room for the drinks etc and an additional room for excess storage.
Kingoonya Hotel has a strong connection to the community and the surrounding stations and holds many we patronised event during the year, like the annual cricket match or camp oven cook off that can attract patron from as far as Adelaide Port Pirie and the Eyre Peninsula and occasionally interstaters.
