$20 Million in Funding Announced for Remote and Regional Queensland - Could Now Be the Time to Buy a Business?
$20 Million in Funding Announced for Remote and Regional Queensland
Since the first Betterment fund was established in 2013, more than 520 projects across 70 local government areas in Queensland – with a value of more than $263 million – have been approved. This funding has helped communities to recover and help withstand the impact of natural disasters.
Buying a business in remote and regional Queensland often raises the question "how will I connect to the rest of the state". Whether the business depends on tourists or local trade, good infrastructure and roads are vital to a business's success. Fast delivery of products, visiting tourist trade, and access to national and international markets rely on good roads and transport. The QLD Governments commitment to good infrastructure that can withstand natural disasters (or at least create a faster recovery) is in the spotlight and it's good for communities and business.
Today Deputy Premier, Dr Steven Miles announced $20 million in funding to further Betterment Projects.
“Making this $20 million available to all local government areas impacted in the 2020-21 disaster season saw councils from the Torres in the north to Goondiwindi in the south to Bulloo in the west access this betterment funding,” Mr Miles said.
“This is all about building back better than it was so that infrastructure is stronger and more resilient in case another natural disaster hits,” Minister Watt said.
“It’s fantastic to see funding going to remote communities that are so frequently impacted by natural disasters – this funding will provide short-term benefits through local jobs and the long-term benefit of better protecting community assets during the next natural disaster.”
The Government's initiative to protect against natural disasters will make communities stronger and safer.
The Betterment Fund supports the building of vital infrastructures such as roads, bridges and floodways. These can vary from the stabilisation of low-lying roads to reduce erosion and scouring, upgrades to drainage structures to increase capacity or rep replacing gravel with reinforced concrete to improve resilience.
“Communities across the state will reap the benefits including Southern Downs Regional Council, which has been approved for $1.17 million in betterment funding to construct four concrete floodways with sealed approaches along Condamine River Road.”

“39 projects [are] approved in this program that we expect will build on the success of our previous betterment programs, which have clearly demonstrated the benefit of ‘building back better’. Mr Miles said.
