Chris completed a Bachelor of Business Degree Majoring in Valuation and Land Economy from Curtin University. He is accredited as a Registered Business Valuer with the Australian Institute of Business Brokers and a Certified Practising Valuer (Business and Property) with the Australian Property Institute.

Chris started his career in property valuations in 1989, initially with government, and then private companies. He has also held an executive management position in a business with revenue in excess of $35 million. In 1998 he established Kimberley Property Valuers (KPV), now Opteon North- West. Over an 11-year period, he expanded the business from a single operator to include a staff of 8 across offices in Kununurra and Broome. During this period Chris extended the range of services to cover business goodwill/going concern valuations. His expertise and professionalism in these areas led to KPV being appointed to major bank panels specifically for provision of business goodwill/ going concern valuations. Chris has since sold this successful business in order to move back to Perth and later joined Jarot Business Valuations, becoming a director in 2014.

He specialises in SME valuations of retail, wholesale, manufacturing, service and professional practice businesses. Chris authors the “Business Values Newsletter”, which for in excess of 25 years, has provided over 400 business fraternity subscribers, with data and analysis, as well as articles on valuation theory and techniques.

Chris’ expertise in business valuations has seen him in demand as a presenter on valuation theory, techniques and current market trends. He has presented to industry bodies including the Certified Practising Accountants, Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (Business Brokers Division) and national conferences of the Australian Institute of Business Brokers (AIBB). He is the Chairman of the Valuation Standards and Registered Business Valuers Committees of the AIBB. In 2019, Chris was awarded the AIBB’s Education and Training Committee award for “Outstanding Service and Contribution”.

Chris’ business valuation experience, together with his corporate knowledge, provides him with a comprehensive understanding of what drives business profitability and how to assess business value.
