The main difference between freehold and leasehold hotels is about ownership of the actual property. 

• Freehold hotel -  you are buying the property and the land, giving you long-term stability and full control of the business and location. However this type of purchase usually costs more. Buying a freehold hotel has the potential to increase in value of the property as well as the business. 
   
• Leasehold hotel - means you lease the property for a set period, it's usually a longer lease such as 5x5x5 or 10x10x10. It will be a commercial lease with the owner of the property. You can buy the leasehold interest either from the current business owner (the current tenant) or directly from the freehold owner, who has chosen to sell just the business.
