Walking into Beans Bar on Smith Street, guests will notice its cozy décor of leaves and mirrors that give the space a calm and natural atmosphere–a safe haven in the middle of a bustling city. And just above the bar is a painting of the bar's namesake, Beans, the beloved cat of the vendor.

Beans Bar is the first bar in Melbourne that's solely dedicated to lesbian, trans, and neurodivergent patrons. In case you didn't know, neurodivergent usually refers to people with autism and ADHD, and the bar caters to this group in a variety of ways such as providing patrons with bubble poppers at the entrance. The colourful tools help neurodivergent people self-regulate when they are in a chaotic environment, like a bar, by making it easier for them to concentrate or focus.

There is footpath trading for eight on Smith Street, with vintage French doors that open from the coveted lounge area bringing the outside in for summer days. The bar is at the rear of the main room and behind that the small but well-equipped commercial kitchen. It is all very comfortable. To the rear of the venue is a courtyard, the toilets, storage rooms and a garage accessed by a side laneway. The latter used as storage at the moment but with plenty of space for a car. To reduce the commute, upstairs is a two-bedroom apartment. This has independent access and so is sublet at the moment which is a nice boost to income.

The venue has an On Premises licence till 1am with a capacity of 41, meaning you do not have to serve food. There are eight years left on the lease made up of 3+5, with rent coming in at $1350 including GST per week, for the whole venue. Beans has a specific clientele at the moment. But any new owner operator can do what they wish with the venue. It can be a blank canvas, but with little to do as the infrastructure is all in place.
