Winning the AIBB Emerging Talent Award for 2025 has confirmed Jennifer Angsiting’s place among business broking’s brightest newcomers.
Working on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Jennifer believes that her entrepreneurial know-how, local insights, and a people-first approach are the qualities that helped her stand out at the recent AIBB conference awards ceremony.
After just twelve months as a broker Jennifer had a strong record of solo sales and glowing client reviews. “Those were probably the main criteria,” she explained. “Nurturing clients and getting feedback were key.”
Building a Brand on the Peninsula
Jennifer operates under the umbrella of New Gen Business Agents, based in Mount Waverley, while running her own brand, Selling Mornington Peninsula.
“I love that arrangement,” she said. “New Gen handles contracts and marketing, so I can focus on listings and looking after vendors and buyers.”
The support allows her to grow her profile in a region where business brokers are scarce. “There aren’t many brokers here,” she noted. “Mostly it’s real estate firms adding a commercial arm. Being local, I understand the market, the seasonality, and the vendor side.”
From Coffee Bars to Client Care
Jennifer’s journey into business broking began long before she held a licence. For more than a decade, she and her husband created espresso and croissant bars in Melbourne. “We set up cafés in hotel lobbies, sports stadiums, and near the airport. Every two years, we set up, staffed, and sold another venture,” she explained.
“I was doing it without realising,” she laughed. “I loved business, but not just one industry.”
When friends who owned businesses sought advice, Jennifer helped them prepare for sales. After COVID ended her career as a flight attendant, she decided to formalise her experience. “I thought, I’ll study this, get licensed, and do it professionally rather than return to flying.”
That mix of hospitality, retail, and service experience now informs her work with vendors and buyers across varied sectors.
A Local Specialist With a Wide Lens
Rather than focus on one industry, Jennifer has built a reputation as a geographic specialist. “I cover many types of businesses, but my area is the Peninsula,” she explained. “It’s touristy, so there’s seasonality. You need to understand that if you’re selling a cafe or other hospitality business.”
Her curiosity has led her into sectors she hadn’t expected. “Digital marketing agencies and bookkeeping firms have been highlights,” she said. “I’ve learned those industries quickly, and buyers are keen, especially in digital marketing, where acquiring an agency can grow a business fast.”
Why Women Are Changing Broking
Jennifer sees growing diversity as a strength for the profession. “There are still more men than women, but the gap is closing,” she said. “Bringing a female personality adds balance.”
She believes empathy helps vendors through the emotional side of selling. “Building a business is like raising a child,” she said. “You’re excited to move on, but letting go can be hard. A nurturing approach helps people feel supported.”
That perspective, she adds, benefits male and female colleagues alike. “Sometimes I remind people it isn’t just transactional. There are feelings involved, and acknowledging them makes deals smoother.”
Creative Solutions for Complex Deals
Jennifer’s most recent sale (another local cafe) tested her problem-solving skills. The landlord, who managed the property himself, rejected three offers.
Jennifer could see that the landlord needed more confidence that the proposed buyer would be successful in running the cafe, so she decided to try a more personal touch.
“We arranged introductions early,” she said. “He was old-school, so we printed documents, hand-delivered them, and talked everything through.”
That shift built trust and secured the lease transfer. “It settled on Monday,” Jennifer said. “It was different from the usual email process, which most clients prefer, but creativity got it over the line.”
Reading the Market
For Jennifer, the appeal of business broking lies in variety and growth potential. She sees more owners engaging brokers early. This trend applies to owners looking to sell and to anyone interested in acquiring businesses.
“People are realising that having someone who does this every day lets you keep running your business right through to settlement,” she explained. “Brokers also help buyers find opportunities that can instantly expand their companies.”
She expects sectors like hospitality to remain popular, especially for people looking for a career change. “Many of my buyers come from IT,” she said. “They want something social and they love their coffee.”
Expansion Plans
Jennifer plans to expand her team in time, bringing fresh talent (male or female) into the field. “I’d love to grow a team,” she said. “It’s great to add a nurturing side to what was once a very male-dominated industry.”
Winning the Emerging Talent Award has only strengthened her resolve. “It shows what’s possible if you put in the work and care for your clients,” she said.
