AIBB Conference 2024 Awards

The Australian Institute of Business Brokers (AIBB) recently wrapped up its 2024 Conference in Hobart, Tasmania, bringing together business brokers from across Australia for their annual event.

The 2024 AIBB Conference, held from September 9th to 11th, was packed with educational sessions and networking opportunities. The event featured notable speakers and covered essential topics shaping the future of business broking including financial acumen, communication, impacts of AI and becoming a trusted advisor.

The conference kicked off with an exclusive Registered Business Valuers CPD day, with the main sessions starting on Tuesday. This was followed by the highly anticipated Gala Awards Dinner in the evening, and the event concluded on Wednesday with keynote speakers and tailored business broker Q&As.

Reflecting on the event, brokers shared their experiences. Sabrina Xia from LINK Business Sales remarked, "The AIBB Conference has come to a close, and I leave with not only a wealth of knowledge but a deep sense of inspiration. The experience was nothing short of enriching, with conversations and connections that I’ll carry with me long after."

The AIBB Industry Awards for 2024, presented during the conference, recognized leading business brokers who have closed major deals, provided exceptional service, and made significant contributions to the profession.

Here’s a look at this year’s winners...

AIBB National Broker of the Year and Sales Excellence Award: Brad Potter

Taking home the prestigious AIBB National Broker of the Year accolade, Brad Potter’s expertise in the healthcare sector continues to solidify his position as a leading business broker.

An exceptional achiever, Brad has won the National Specialist Broker of the Year award four times. In 2023, he was also awarded Business Broker of the Year and Deal Maker of the Year, further establishing him as one of the most successful brokers.

Brad's ability to navigate the unique challenges of healthcare-related businesses is unparalleled, as he fully understands the complexities and sensitivities involved in selling these practices. His deep industry knowledge and commitment to client satisfaction have helped him secure both the National Broker of the Year and Sales Excellence awards this year.

"Because I specialise, I don’t have to spread myself thinly across a wide range of industries. This increases the effectiveness of my marketing efforts considerably," Brad explained. His specialized focus enables him to maximize opportunities and provide tailored, expert services to his clients.

"You know who and where your potential sellers and buyers are. You know the current trends in the market, and you can give sellers a realistic appraisal of the likely price and time frame for the sale," he continued, emphasizing the advantages of niche specialization.

The AIBB National Business Broker of the Year award is given to a broker who demonstrates exceptional performance, expertise, and professionalism across all areas of business brokering. The recipient must excel in deal execution, client satisfaction, industry knowledge, and overall contributions to the profession.

Brad's success lies in his focused approach. Specializing in healthcare businesses has allowed him to build a unique market presence, where his knowledge and connections have been crucial in getting deals over the line. His win this year underscores the value of developing expertise in a specialized niche within the increasingly competitive business brokering space.
