Frequently Asked Questions

According to Bsale's September 2026 Quarter Market Report, the average asking price of businesses for sale in Brisbane is $825,819, and Queensland businesses marked as sold had an average asking price of $469,208. Prices range from small owner-operated businesses under $100,000 to established enterprises worth several million dollars.

Most lenders require a cash deposit of 30% to 50% of the purchase price, so a typical acquisition at the Queensland average sold asking price needs a starting budget of roughly $140,000 to $235,000. Also budget for legal fees, due diligence costs, lease transfer costs and enough working capital to cover your first 90 days of trading.

Asking prices are the prices advertised by sellers and may include stock, plant and equipment or property. Sold figures are the asking price displayed when a listing was marked as sold on Bsale, not the final sale price, which is rarely disclosed.

Queensland had the strongest momentum of any state in the September 2026 quarter, with buyer enquiries up 47% on a year earlier and 38% on the June quarter. Brisbane offers a deep mid-range market, so buyers with finance arranged and advisers lined up for due diligence are best placed to act quickly as competition rises.

Yes. Buyers should review commercial lease conditions under Queensland's Retail Shop Leases Act 1994, confirm any required liquor licences with Business Queensland, and check zoning and planning approvals with the local council. Queensland transfer duty may also apply, depending on the assets purchased.

Business Queensland provides free resources and guidance for business owners, including information on licences, permits and regulatory requirements. Always seek independent legal and financial advice before purchasing a business.

Before you commit, check the financials (at least three years of profit and loss statements and BAS), the legal position (the commercial lease, licences and any council orders) and the operations (staff, systems and equipment).

Ask for the information memorandum early, have an accountant confirm the owner's earnings against the bank statements, and have a commercial solicitor review the contract before you sign.
